It may look overwhelming at first but in the end this game is quickly explained as it has very clear iconography and only a handful of action types. It plays quite fast with a bit of practice. In their turn players, place their action token on one of the action slots, execute the action and then produce some resources. It is exactly that simple. Even though the tech tree is the larger board, the area control of the planet board is half the game. Resources are finely balanced and require some careful planning or you will find yourself repeatedly executing the Verlegenheitsaktion (the basic action that just gives you some resources). In my experience you need to push for both a level 4 tech and 4 colonies or you have no chance of winning. Definitely my GOTY for 2020.
