My BGG Comment

1-2 players. 85 points on first solo-play. 110 is supposedly the score to beat. Seems easier than Agricola, paying your upkeep isn't quite so crippling. Liked the theme. One of my 2 most heavy games - weighs about a ton! Looking forward to more plays though I wonder if I'll ever find anyone to play it with. I think now I should have got Feast for Odin instead. At least then I could try and offer it up on a game night edit 2024: I had to update my rating. It had over the years fallen down a little. But I recently played solo 4 games of this with the expansion and it just sang. It had been quite some time since it was on my table and in my memory it was just big and daunting. When I got the expansion it seemed even worse. But in the years since 2014 I have played a lot more Rosenberg games and having got this back to my table it turns out it is one of the very best. It plays very quickly as a solo, the differentiation in the worker spots between the seasons is ingenious. I really enjoy the sheep multiplication and the additions of tea and trade are just perfect.

Less heavy than the box suggests. It does weigh a ton though…

So good. So many strategies so little randomness. Prefer solo.

This so much faster to play than the overwhelming number of action slots suggests. So many strategies and the expansion is excellent

You have this little village and you build it up. You shore up the meadows further out and out so you can place more sheep. And breed them and have more sheep. And sheep until you have ALL the sheep… maybe consider getting a horse to put in front of the cart so you can go and see the world outside of your village to trade a little? Or have a ship (expansion only) to trade for… wait for it: tea? Why it is cozy? * There is tea in it (sorry only with the expansion) * You can watch the sheep breed (and cows and horses and of course you score only the type of animal you have the least of, it is not that cozy) * There is always an action spot that does something nice for you. * The switch between the seasons is just nice. * The board may look daunting at first but once you‘ve settled in … you can drink your tea hot. * It plays surprisingly quick if you ignore the setup/teardown phases but you prepare the table before your friend comes over, right?

Despite everything I managed to play this a few times with the newly acquired expansion. It is a big box and at first the action selection seems as overwhelming as AffO. But it turns out this is far simpler than some of other Uwe fare. Once you have finished the first year, you have a strategy to follow and choices become clearer. Great game. Will only play solo. I need time to think. But it is cozy tea-time thinking! Solo Plays 2025: 2 Ranking last year: 14

I had not played this game in ages… probably since the year it was published. I mostly remembered it being big and daunting. And then came the expansion which I ignored at first. But then it went out of print for the first time and FOMO hit me so I ordered it on the next printing and when it arrived I packed the components in the—now completely overflowing—base game box and the game seemed even more daunting. I preferred Nusfjord at the time because it seemed more compact and easier to grasp. But this year somewhere in my gaming circles people played this and it motivated me to relearn the rules and integrate the expansion. And then I played a whole bunch of games and here it is in the Top 10. It‘s just so much fun to try the various strategies the game offers. And I left it on the game table for a few days… if you can just skip setup and teardown it is a really fast game. Solo Plays 2024: 4 Ranking last year: - (new entry)
