Formosa Tea BGG ↗

My BGG Comment

Worker placement game about tea production in Taiwan. Played over six rounds that each end with a historical event. You need to harvest the tea leaves, bring them to the factories for green, black and oolong tea and then produce the tea with your tea masters over a series if refinement steps. You get to advance your mastery of each type of teach and sell tea on global and local markets fulfilling valuable contracts. It took me 2 reads of the manual to grasp how the production engine works in this game. I find it plays quite relaxed with some beneficial interactivity and very little getting in each other‘s way. Has a good table presence with a beautifully composed color scheme and an intriguing looking board. Just enough crunch to stay interesting. I think the time is closer to 90 minutes for 2 practiced players and higher for more than 2 players.

A worker placement game about producing tea. Who would have thought to include that in a list of games for a rainy afternoon with tea? We actually did that a few years back on vacation when it rained so much we didn‘t want to leave the hotel, so we sat, watched the stormy sea and played the game. Why it is cozy? * It has tea. Lots of tea. (just imagine Keanu Reeves saying that as racks and racks of tea slide into view) * It is really very pretty and the art feels cozy. * Worker placement is slightly interactive. * The production chain and contract fulfillment are not too complex to get going (It‘s been a while since I played)
