My BGG Comment

So far I am not convinced this is a game for me. After Hoplomachus Victorum, I had hoped this tiny solo card battler would be more my thing but again the dice are betraying me with their empty faces. I tried Red first and learned that it is the most difficult of the Tanglewood decks. I will give the other two a try before dismissing this.

2026: Yashima's Game Diary
After Hoplomachus victorum, I really hoped this one was going to be the dice solo of my dreams. It is not. I got the 3 Tanglewood (fairy tale inspired) decks that have incredibly beautiful artwork. The first hurdle I encountered was the fiddly rulebook that is divided into base rules and deck specific rules. Nope. Next up my issue with empty die faces remains: there are too many of them. It took me 3 attempts to finish my first game of this. I should maybe not have started with the Red deck. I read this is the hardest of the 3 Tanglewood ones. I made it to the final boss in this game but I still don't quite understand how to play and I probably cheated. I've been tempted to find a houserule with Hoplomachus victorum to ease up on the frustration. I am the kind of player who prefers inching up difficulty slowly to learn from successes rather than failures. But it seems these games really want to throw me in at the deep end.
