The art is pretty but once laid out turns out to be distracting. Also the gameplay felt ... inevitable? I felt like I had little agency and the choices I made were of little consequence. This one of those "too much meat for a filler, too little for the main act" games. It didn't help that I just couldn't figure out a strategy. It would probably get better with more plays but the actual process of playing just wasn't fun enough to help the game make it to my table against the rest of my collection. If I want a quick tile laying game with little setup, I'd rather play Beacon Patrol (which is cooperative) or still Carcassonne if I want the shared "map" and competition.
